This is an amusing account of a year in the life of a teenage girl in the mid 1950s. It's partly autobiographical as Kathleen remembers when she herself was a girl-about-town. It's 1955 and in October of that year Bill Haley's record 'Rock Around the Clock' shot to the top of the Hit Parade, followed in 1956 by the singing sensation Elvis Presley. Rock and Roll had arrived. The book's title NO BOPPING ALLOWED refers to the signs that were placed in dance halls for a brief period in the mid 1950s when jiving, and later rock and rolling was called bopping for a while.
